The power of ‘behind the scenes’ videos

Matthew Burgess

As you have probably heard (multiple times), video marketing is on the rise…

But does this mean that every business needs to make the first video idea that comes into their head and plaster it everywhere for all to see? No.

As with all marketing and advertising trends, it is crucial that you find a way for your business to naturally incorporate it in, that works towards achieving your company’s objectives and fits both you and your clients. This applies to the format, style, storyline, tone and every other little aspect of the video.

One of the best ways of doing this is to create a ‘behind the scenes’ video. The direction you take this is in would depend on the type of business you have. For example a manufacturing company could do a brilliant behind the scenes video of how their products are made, a creative agency could do one on ‘office life’ (usually relatively more interesting and up-beat than a standard day in the office), or a large corporation could do a day in the life of their MD / CEO or a video showing the impact their work has.

The average video retains 37% of viewers

all the way to the end of the video

– so what can you do to make yours fall into this category?

One thing you must remember is to make it interesting – sounds obvious but this is easy to lose sight of. A video of dull grey machines going back and forth or literally following around an MD while they do mundane tasks is not going to achieve anything but boring customers so they don’t bother watching all of it, wasting both yours and their time. Add excitement and intrigue, leaving them either so impressed or wanting to know more so they get in touch with you straight away.

As with everything, the video needs to accessible across all platforms. What features are you going to have? Again, you need to make sure you don’t use features ‘just for the sake of it’, but when there are so many alternatives readily available to customers, whatever you do needs to stand out from the rest (or at the very least keep up with the rest).

From drones to basic hand-held cameras, we can create a video to suit a variety of budget and objectives. Try us.
